WHAT IS THE SHERIFF’S FOUNDATION?
- The Sheriff’s Foundation is a newly formed non-profit organization that was established to raise funds to pay for items not typically included in the regular general operating fund of the BCSO budget. The Sheriff's Foundation was created for the charitable purpose of raising funds for programs which support and promote goodwill towards the BCSO. It primarily supports special expenditures for Search and Rescue, Honor Guard, the Canine Unit, and other public safety programs. “We have had individuals donate money to the Sheriff’s Office in the past as an acknowledgement of a job well done, but this gives residents an opportunity to donate money for personal tax purposes.”- Sheriff Simpson. The foundation will follow a grant application process in which Sheriff’s Office deputies or personnel submit project ideas that fit within the scope of the mission of the foundation. There will also be opportunities to provide matching funds when applying for federal and state grants.
WHAT IS THE BOYS & GIRLS CLUB OF CORVALLIS STARS PROGRAM?
- STARS is an after school academic and enrichment program located at six Corvallis elementary schools. There are many low-income and working families that cannot afford childcare for their youth, and the BGCC wish is to secure scholarship funding for families to support afterschool care for children ages 5-8. STARS operates from dismissal to 6:00pm on all school days and offers a structured environment where children can participate in activities including: sports, arts & crafts, science & nature, and dramatic play. STARS staff offer tutoring and homework assistance building on the school’s curriculum. The BGCC would like to move these youth into an appropriate childcare setting that better meets the needs of a young elementary student.
